Concerto for Viola and Orchestra
Concerto for Viola and Orchestra was written in the years 2003-2004. It was first performed in Dijon, France (Grand Auditorium) on 7 February 2007 (Raphaël Oleg - viola, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, cond. Vladimír Válek). The work was instigated by the composer's friend of many years, musicologist Pierre-E. Barbier, to whom the work is also dedicated. According to the composer, the chief aim of this approximately half-hour composition, which is arranged into three movements, is not a technical display, but the application of a whole range of expressive qualities in both the solo instrument and the symphony orchestra. The composer considered this piece as his most important concertante work.

Dialogues for String Quintet
Dialogues for two violins, two violas and violoncello was written during the years 1982-1984 for the Kocian Quartet and viola player Jan Peruska. The composer stated the following about the work: "This two-movement piece flows in a single current, even though it is clearly separated into a slow and fast part. While I was writing it, I entertained the notion of a dialogue between four people, who are joined by a fifth person who tries to involve himself in the conversation: from the solo entry and the calm and also agitated conversation, to the solo before the close of the piece, when he appears to leave. The coda is an echo of the heated dialogue of the second part, which intensifies and is left open-ended, with the idea that a similar conversation could resume at any time."
